Floyd Central High School: State of the art, college prep musical and theatre productions. Band and orchestra. (must live in Floyd County, IN). Will sometimes audition elementary-aged students for younger roles.

New Albany High School: Award-winning theatre and band department (must live in area)

Through Your School or Choir Teacher:

KMEA (Kentucky Music Educator’s Association) Has opportunities to be scored on art song solos. Must be submitted through your school choir program, and cannot be done through Louisville Voice Lessons. LVL can help you to prepare but it is the studen't’s responsibility to find the guidelines and rules from their choir teachers

All County & All State Choir - ask your choir teacher for an audition time.

Numerous area all-boys or all-girls private high school will consider auditioning and casting students of the opposite gender for productions. Also, there are many private schools that have very developed Musical Theatre programs. Please contact those schools for more details and specific dates.

University of Kentucky: Lexington, KY. Vocal majors perform operas and musicals with graduate students. Majors also available in Music Ed, Theory, Music Therapy, Sacred Music (MM) and Composition. Large and developed program; in-state tuition. Lots of music ensembles. Richard Tucker Foundation Recommended Program. Opportunities for scholarships via competitions in the fall and spring.

University of Louisville: Small program with lots of opportunities, a young faculty, opportunities to perform with KY Opera and Canto Vocal Programs (Met Opera coaches); potential to stay at home, cutting costs for dorms; in-state tuition; Music Therapy, Music Minors, Music History, Composition, Music Theory, Music Media, and Music Ed majors available. Also possible to perform with world-traveling choir.

Bellarmine University: Louisville, KY. Ability to stay at home; in-state tuition; small program. Vocal Performance, Music Theory, Music Composition, Music Technology. Catholic University.

Eastern Kentucky University: Near Cincinnati, Ohio. Scholarship opportunities. In-state tuition. Traveling choir. Music Theatre and Vocal Performance majors. Opportunities for cross-over performances between MT and Opera

Indiana University: Bloomington, IN. Some students offered in-state tuition or Premier Vocal Scholarship. Largest voice department in the world. Considered one of best music schools in the world. Ability to continue on to grad school and receive doctorate. Much of faculty was at one time a high-ranking professional in the opera world. Diverse and large student body. College town not far from home. Majors include Audio/Sound Engineering, composition, Vocal Performance/Opera, Music Ed, Music Theory and many classes available in music for non-majors as well. Fully staged operas and more than 1100 performances per year.

Cincinnati Conservatory of Music: Music Therapy and Music Theatre majors available. Some students offered in-state tuition. Extremely small student capacity great for performance opportunities. World-renowned coaches. Highly respected reputation.

Belmont University: Majors include Vocal Music, Musical Theatre, Music Business, Church Music, Music Technology, Music Therapy, Commercial Music, Music Education, and Music Theory. Campus in vibrant musical community of Nashville. Christian University.

Western KY University: Vocal Performance, Music Theatre and Speech/Voice Pathology. Ability to audition for productions as a non-music major and also to minor in music

Stephen’s College: St. Louis/Webster Groves, MO. All-female college. Tracks to complete MT degree include summer programs that allow applicants to graduate in three y ears with intense performance experience.

NYU: Has an amazing songwriting program for singers. Must have an extensive background in either piano or guitar.

Other pursuits that love those with musical backgrounds: Finance/Banking, Law, and Medicine. Quite often, high school students that have a background in voice or music are very appealing on college applications. Also, graduate programs, medical schools and law schools are favorable to students that have undergrad degrees in the arts. Musicians and artists often have a remote career as well, which allows for a more stable income and also for flexibility and travel. Having a remote career can make one’s life easier, and help to create a successful artistic life as well. It is advisable to study skills in and out of college that may add to a tandem remote career.
